Mahale & Gombe National Park - Primate Safari

Although seeing chimpanzees is the obvious highlight of this tour, Lake Tanganyika is a very special place to visit and you’ll be able to snorkel in the lake and join the locals for your own fishing experience.

Day 1
Fly To Kigoma To Gombe Stream National Park
Flight from Dar Es Salaam to Kigoma departs 09:30 am, on arrival to Kibirizi port for your boat to Gombe (2 hours private boat). Pick up on arrival and transfer to the camp, afternoon relax on the beach.
Gombe Stream’s main attraction is obviously the chimpanzee families that live protected in the park’s boundaries. Visitors take walks deep into the forest to observe and sit with the extraordinary primates for an entire morning.
Apart from chimpanzee viewing, many other species of primates live in Gombe Stream’s tropical forests. Val vet and colobus monkeys, baboons, forest pigs and dik dik inhabit the dense forest and a wide variety of tropical birdlife.

Day 2
Gombe Stream National Park – Chimpanzee Tracking
On 08h30, Start Chimpanzee tracking in the forest, Gombe became well known for the conservation project started from Jane Goodall, who first arrived in Gombe in 1960.
Apart from chimpanzee viewing, many other species of primates live in Gombe Stream’s tropical forests, like velvet, Colobus monkeys and baboons, Climb to Jane’s peak and visit Kakombe waterfalls if time allows.

Day 3
Gombe – Kigoma Then Mahale Mountain National Park
After breakfast transfer by boat to Kibirizi port (2 hours) then transfer by vehicle to Lukoma village then take a 45 minutes boat to Mahale National Park – afternoon relax and overnight.
The park like its northerly neighbor Gombe is home to some of Africa’s last remaining wild chimpanzees, a population of roughly 900, they are habituated to human visitors by a Japanese research project founded in the 1960s.
Tracking the chimps of Mahale is a magical experience.Mahale is located in the Western Tanzania to the South of Kigoma town, it is bordering Lake Tanganyika-the World’s longest, second deepest and least polluted freshwater lake-harbouring an estimated 1000 fish species.

Day 4&5
Mahale Mountain National Park
You will spend two full days chimpanzee tracking in Mahale. Chimpanzees normally move in search of food and nest wherever there’s an abundant food source such as their favorite fruit. Snorkeling is an option if you’d like to cool off in the water and see what lies below the surface.

Day 6
Mahale To Kigoma Hilltop Lodge
Day 7
Kigoma – Dar Es Salaam
Morning after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Dar-es-salaam depart 12:50.
